The Wii U and 3DS will both be getting a new Super Smash Bros game next year. Nintendo announced the new titles in the combat franchise today, saying the games would be released in 2014 but no specific release date. Be sure to take a look at the E3 trailer below!
The Wii U version will feature HD visuals, new stages, and some revamped controls. Also some new characters will be joining the roster; the Villager from Animal Crossing, Wii Fit’s Trainer, and Capcom’s Megaman!
The 3DS version will sport all the characters of the Wii U version but will have some unique, handheld themed stages. For example, the trailer shows a fierce battle going down while a Nintendog rolls around in the bathroom. It’s the kind of goofy awesomeness Nintendo fans love.
The 3DS version will also have a different, higher contrast graphical style. The characters will have a black border around them, making them easier to make out on the 3DS’ smaller screen.
The last game in the series was the Wii’s Super Smash Bros Brawl, which released in 2008. The Super Smash Bros series began on the Nintendo 64 in 1999, and features combat between characters from several of Nintendo’s many franchises. The series quickly established itself as a fan favorite.
