Visitors to the recently ended Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) had a chance to check out the world’s first smartphone with “real” octa-core processor. The device called UMI X2S sports MediaTek’s 1.5GHz MT6592 chip that can fire-up all eight cores when needed. In addition, this phone also boasts a 5-inch full HD screen, as well as 13-megapixel camera with Sony’s lens on the back, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The UMI XS2 should be available in China soon costing anywhere between RMB 1,499 ($245) and RMB 1,999 ($327). As it’s usually the case with Chinese devices, we’ve no idea whether it will ever be released in the West. The chances are we’ll have to wait for some bigger OEM to bring us the phone with the MT6592 chip, which as far as I’ve understood, is slower that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 and NVIDIA’s Tegra 4. So, we’re not sure we actually need something like that. What do you say?
