Texting and driving is dangerous business, and we all know it. A new PSA from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration takes just 30 seconds to scare you into never picking up your phone while driving again. The ad’s debut coincides with the kick-off of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

The ad begins with three high-spirited teens chatting and laughing away when suddenly the driver receives a text message. She picks up her phone and wham, a truck slams into the car, sending the teens into a terrifying death spiral. A cop appears next to the obliterated vehicle to deliver a straight-forward statement about texting and driving. The cop states: “Nobody likes to be stopped by the police. But if I had seen her texting while driving and given her a ticket, it just might have saved her life.” Truth.

Check out the video below and remember, don’t text and drive! The life you save just might be your own.
