Gionee can’t reach users in the West alone; it needs a partner to do that, and guess what – they have teamed-up with UK-based KAZAM to bring their super-slim Elife S5.1 to the Brits, and perhaps the rest of Europe.
At 5.15mm, the mentioned Gionee product happens to be the world’s thinnest smartphone, which we can’t really grasp at this stage. One would think it’s easy to break, but we haven’t read such reports.
In any case, the Elife S5.1 will be introduced in the UK as KAZAM Tornado 348. Aside from a different name, this remains the same Gionee device under the hood with specs that include a 4.8-inch AMOLED 720p HD screen, MediaTek MT6592 quad-core processor, 8MP rear and 5MP front cameras, and 2,050 mAh battery. As part of the deal, KAZAM will also offer its signature one-year screen replacement guarantee that provides a single screen repair/replacement service within 12 months of purchase.
The KAZAM Tornado 348 will be launched in mid-November with a price of £249 (about $400). No word which market comes next, though.
