180,000 units in a single day. That’s not a small number, and it tells you something real about how much appetite there is for something different in the smartphone space. Huawei’s Pura X View went on sale in China on September 7, and the demand was immediate.
According to Gizmochina, citing Wall Street News via ITHome, the Pura X View shifted over 180,000 units on its first day of availability. Huawei sweetened the launch with special gifts for early buyers and exclusive student perks worth up to 944 yuan, roughly €121. Smart move. But the sales numbers suggest people weren’t just showing up for the freebies.
So what makes the Pura X View different? It’s being positioned as the world’s first wide-screen non-foldable smartphone. That means you’re getting a wider display aspect ratio in a standard slab form factor, no hinge, no crease, no folding required. It also carries a big battery, which is exactly what buyers want when you give them more screen to power. On paper, that’s a genuinely interesting pitch, not a gimmick dressed up in marketing speak.
To put the day-one numbers in perspective, the earlier Pura X and Pura X Max have already shipped over 2.9 million units combined. The Pura X View is building on a line that already has real momentum in China.
This matters beyond just Huawei’s quarterly figures. The foldable phone category has been growing, but foldables still come with real tradeoffs: higher prices, durability concerns, and that unavoidable crease. If Huawei can deliver a wider, more immersive screen experience in a regular phone body at a lower price point, that’s a direct challenge to the entire foldable argument. Other brands will be watching closely.
China’s domestic market has been strongly behind Huawei since the company doubled down on its own chip and software ecosystem. Strong first-day sales here carry weight. They signal consumer confidence, and they give Huawei the data it needs to decide whether this wide-screen format has legs beyond China. Right now, the early signs say yes.
