This approach fixes that by making the whole thing manual.
The cinematic angle is real here, not just a marketing label. Clips shoot in a 2.39:1 widescreen ratio, the same format used in actual movie theaters. Honor is also loading in the full ARRI Look Library, with nine themes and 87 different color looks. So you’re getting professional film stock aesthetics baked right into the camera app, no editing software needed. That’s a meaningful addition for anyone who wants polished results without a full post-production workflow.
ARRI is a name that carries serious weight in professional filmmaking. Putting their look library inside a phone camera is a smart move, and it gives Honor a real differentiator in a market where everyone’s camera specs are starting to blur together. Whether everyday users will dig deep into 87 color looks is another question, but the option being there at all is genuinely cool.
On the security side, Honor says the Magic 9 series will pair 3D ultrasonic fingerprint recognition with 3D face recognition, and the company is calling the combination an industry-exclusive. Based on leaked specs, the Magic 9 Pro Max is expected to get both systems, while the standard Magic 9 may only include the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Honor hasn’t confirmed the full breakdown yet.
The dual biometrics angle matters because both methods use 3D mapping, which is significantly harder to spoof than 2D alternatives. Combining them means you get speed and flexibility without sacrificing security. It’s the kind of feature that tends to trickle down to mid-range devices over the next year or two, so seeing it land here first gives Honor a genuine lead.
