Huawei’s foldable Pura X Max just hit 1.2 million shipments in four months

Four months. 1.2 million units. That’s not a fluke. Huawei’s Pura X Max, the phone the company calls a ‘dual-sided wide-screen phone’, is moving faster than most people expected — and it’s not just selling, it’s winning over the people who buy it. According to Huawei Central, the device has claimed the No. 1 spot for user satisfaction in its category. That’s a big deal, because shipping a lot of units and actually making customers happy are two very different things.

The Pura X Max is Huawei’s answer to the growing demand for bigger, more immersive displays without just slapping a giant slab in your pocket. The phone uses a dual-sided wide-screen design, meaning both the front and back panels are large, usable displays. It’s an unusual approach in a market that’s mostly split between traditional candy-bar phones and inward-folding designs. Huawei is carving out a different lane entirely, and it looks like consumers are actually following.

Why does this matter? Because foldable and dual-screen phones have spent years being ‘almost there.’ Too expensive, too fragile, or just not useful enough to justify the price. If the Pura X Max is genuinely hitting strong satisfaction scores on top of solid shipment numbers, it suggests Huawei may have figured out something the rest of the industry is still working on — making a multi-screen phone that people actually want to use day to day, not just show off at dinner.

Huawei shared the milestone via a post on Weibo, which is standard territory for the company’s China-focused announcements. And China is where this phone lives for now. Huawei’s global reach is still limited due to ongoing U.S. trade restrictions, so these 1.2 million shipments are coming almost entirely from the domestic market. That makes the number even more impressive. China’s premium smartphone segment is brutally competitive, with Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, and Vivo all fighting for the same buyers. Clearing 1.2 million in four months in that environment says something real about the product.

The broader context here is that Huawei has been on a quiet comeback. After years of pressure from chip restrictions and losing access to Google services, the company leaned hard into its home market and kept pushing on hardware design. The Pura X Max feels like a product of that focus. It’s not trying to compete globally on specs sheets. It’s trying to win on form factor and experience in a market where Huawei still has strong brand trust.

Whether shipments keep climbing through the rest of the year is the real question. Huawei says it expects sales to grow in the coming months, and with satisfaction scores this high, word-of-mouth should help. Still, the dual-sided wide-screen concept needs to prove it has staying power beyond the novelty factor. Right now, the early signs are better than most new form factors get.
