NVIDIA Tegra 3 may be unveiled soon, perhaps MWC

At CES 2011, all the rage was NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core chips and all the smartphones and tablets that would feature the new hardware. As we’ve been reminded before, NVIDIA went over the benefits of having dual-core processors in our smartphones and showed off some games and videos. Naturally, the results were impressive and we can’t wait until these handsets start flooding the market. Not resting on its laurels, however, we’re hearing that NVIDIA is prepping for the next step.

According to NVIDIA general manager Mike Rayfield, Tegra 3 might be unveiled soon. The good news is that we’ll get to drool over it for a while before it starts making its way into consumer products, though that may take a while. The bad news right now is that there aren’t too many details on the Tegra 3 chip – speculation is that it could be a quad-core processor. Since it might be shown off soon, it’s very likely that we’ll see it at Mobile World Congress, or MWC.

Additionally, NVIDIA says it hopes to continue launching a new chip every year. Now if only battery technology could keep up, we’d be happy campers.
