No one expected an iPhone 5 announcement from Apple during this year’s WWDC, but we still don’t know when the next-generation smartphone will be announced or launched by Apple. There are rumors, however, that the next iPhone is in its final stages of testing, which means the fall 2011 launch rumors could hold some weight.

The next generation iPhone has reached the final testing stage (aka “AP” stage [Thanks, Chronic!]) and is now being carried around by high level Apple and carrier executives.
Although this has been assumed since the no-iPhone-at-WWDC-rumors broke, the current plan is for a September launch for the next-generation iPhone.
If you’ve been waiting for the next iPhone before upgrading, or you’ve been holding off on purchasing the iPhone 4 in hopes that a new model is coming soon, you’ll only have to wait until September to find out whether you can or not.
Additionally, there are still strong rumors that the next-generation iPhone will be a dual-mode device that supports GSM and CDMA networks. A worldphone that supports Verizon’s and Sprint’s networks could do well for CDMA customers here in the U.S., and perhaps in order parts of the world where CDMA is still the dominant network.
The recent rumors also say that Apple and Verizon haven’t struck any deals to support FaceTime calls over the carrier’s 3G network, and that details and issues are still being ironed out.
