Analyst: No iPad 3 this year

Apple is without question the overlord of the tablet world with its dominance over the competition, and for that reason, an early release of its updated version of the iPad (this year) may not be necessary.

For months now, predictions of an early iPad 3 release have swirled around the internet, suggesting a thinner and more efficient battery life than the iPad 2. But in the latest research update from J.P. Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz, came yet another new iPad prediction: no iPad 3, iPad 2 HD, or any derivative thereof until 2012. Moskowitz writes:

In our view, Apple should be in no rush. The other tablet entrants have stumbled so far, and that trend-line could persist deep into 2012. MMI and RIM have been recent disappointments, and we expect more stumbles from others.

He has a point when it comes to some of the disappointing numbers being reported by the competition, like the fact that Apple’s iPad is outselling RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook 19 to 1. Let me remind you though, this is from the same guy who believes Apple’s growth will be slowed by Windows 8 in the next couple of years — that is yet to be seen.

Regardless, whenever Apple decides to release the iPad 3 it will be a huge event, and I’m sure the iPad will continue to be the industry leader in the tablet market. Lets face it, whether you like it or not, Apple has the game on lock when it comes to slates, and until a company knocks them off, we’ll continue to sing the same song.
