T-Mobile and Walmart are teaming up for a new unlimited data and messaging plan to be exclusively offered at the retail giant’s stores. For just $30 you get 5GB of HSPA+ data with no annual agreement. Once customers hit the 5GB mark, their data will be slowed down to 2G speeds, but the plan does give users a fair share with unlimited text messages and 100 voice minutes. Walmart will be offering this new plan with several T-Mobile devices. Seong Ohm, senior vice president of entertainment for Walmart U.S. said:
“Walmart is proud to offer our customers fast and affordable mobile options, especially as texting and social networking become a regular form of communication.”
T-Mobile’s Amy McCune, VP of national retail, chimed in saying:
“Walmart is known for providing consumers incredible value, making T-Mobile an ideal partner, and T-Mobile is delivering great prices, convenient options and reliable nationwide 4G network, which we know Walmart customers appreciate.”
Please keep in mind when T-Mob says “4G” it really means HSPA+, so don’t think for second that speeds are in the same league as LTE. Regardless, with a prepaid plan like this, it’s hard to complain about anything. The new plan will launch on October 16 across Walmart stores and online. There weren’t any additional details about which new T-Mo handsets would be elgible for the plan, but does anyone want to take any bets? (Update: T-Mo just confirmed that the new plans are available on all of their handsets.)
