Waze released an updated version of its popular GPS app today to the App Store and version 3.0 adds multiple new features while also sporting an eye-catching new look.
The first great thing about Waze 3.0 is that the app has been completely redesigned. I once downloaded it to try out, but removed it shortly after just because it was so ugly. The main controls have also been nicely streamlined down to two options: menu and reports. Call me picky, but I like my apps to maintain a certain standard of design quality. Old Waze didn’t make the cut. New Waze definitely does.
In addition to a design revamp, Waze revamped search. You can now search for businesses and addresses on a wide variety of services including Google, Bing, Yelp, and Foursquare. And once you choose a location, you’ll get a quick preview of its surroundings before you decide to head off on your journey.
Waze has also had a number of social features, and version 3.0 doesn’t disappoint in this department. Waze Groups adds a new wall feature for members to talk and interact more efficiently. Users can compare scores with the new rank legend or share moods with each other.
Waze 3.0 is a free app available now in the App Store, though an update to the Android version is in the works. And if none of these features are compelling enough for you to try it out, Waze is actually one of the rare free apps for iPhone that offers turn-by-turn directions. Value confirmed.
