LeBron James uses 45 iPads for new shoe store

Love him or hate him, LeBron James sure knows how to draw attention and his new shoe store, “Unknwn,” will have 45 iPads strewn about to allow customers to have an extremely interactive experience. This is just another example of how mobile technology can enhance the shopping experience.

The iPads come from a company called iPad Enclosures and it reportedly provides “user controlled interaction with a single product. Each iPad kiosk offers shoppers access to a wealth of information for each shoe including stylish clothing and sneaker combinations, sneaker pricing, and technical specifications.” We’ve seen this type of interaction in Apple’s stores but I expect more companies to try and integrate iPads into the retail experience because it can lead to a better shopping experience and it does project an aura of hipness.

While brick-and-mortar stores should have legitimate worries over online retailers like Amazon using mobile to steal sales, things like in-store iPads or apps like Shopkick can also leverage this type of technology to create a better shopping experience.
