Modern smartphones are pretty powerful and some folks may use them to do serious work while on the go. In case they need a bigger screen, there’s always an option to connect your beloved gadget to a TV screen, but if one is not available around – you can use an external monitor. Or at least that’s the thinking of a company called Mobile Monitor Technologies (MMT), which launched a “portable” 15.6-inch monitor at the CES.

Called Monitor2Go, it’s an LCD LED-backlit 1600×900 HD+ display that “redefines the entire mobile monitor category,” extending screens of USB enabled notebooks and PCs. Moreover, it can be used to mirror the displays of Apple devices (iPad, iPhone and iPod) and HDMI compatible smartphones and tablets.

Constructed in sleek and rugged aluminum, the Monitor2Go is specifically designed to house, lock, and transport the iPad 2…

Now I dig the idea that everyone could use an extra screen estate from time to time, however I’m not sure carrying around such a big external display is the right solution. Simply put – if you need more space, in most cases users will grab laptop with a bigger screen.

Anyhow, Monitor2Go will be available in early Q2 with the list price of under $300.
