Virgin Mobile to sell the Evo V 4G starting May 31

Virgin Mobile today announced the launch of its first 4G phone, the EVO V. Customers will be able to get their hands on this new handset on the company’s website at the end of the month May 31.

The handset will feature some decent specs, including a 4.3-inch qHD display, 1GB of RAM, and a 5-megapixel camera that is EVO 3D-like with its “3D HD imaging.” Moreover, customers can also expect the device to come preloaded with an 8GB microSD card, an HDMI out port, and mobile hotspot functionality for up to five devices. On the software side of things, this phone will come with Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) topped off with a slightly improved version of Sense 3.6.

For a prepaid phone, this isn’t bad at all. Virgin Mobile customers should’t be ashamed of a choice like this. Granted, this is sort of a variant to the disappointment that was the EVO 3D, but with Virgin’s cheap rate plans I’m sure customers would forget all about that. That being said, the EVO V 4G should be an enjoyable phone, and for “unlimited data” rate plans starting at $35/month, you’d be hard pressed to complain much. Just don’t go over the 2.5GB threshold, if you don’t want to see your 4G speeds throttled (slowed down).
