Chicago’s more than one million weekly train passengers can shop for groceries while commuting to work. Peapod is behind this project / ad campaign that involved placing a virtual grocery store in the city’s State and Lake Station Tunnel. Tunnel walls are wrapped with larger-than-life ads of grocery shelves, stocked with popular products and household staples from brands like Coca-Cola, Barilla, Proctor & Gamble, Kimberly Clark and Reckitt Benckiser.
In order to start shopping, iPhone and Android smartphone users need to scan a QR code to download a free PeapodMobile app and then scan barcodes of the products featured in the ads. Now you can order stuff while on the platform, manage shopping lists and schedule deliveries during the train rides to or from the office…
Sounds cool to me. You can see how this works from the video below, which was taken in Philadelphia where residents got this kind of shopping in February 2012 on 15 commuter rail platforms.
Finally, to further sweeten the deal, Peapod is offering $20 off from your first purchase. Simply enter promotional code “CHICAGORAIL” and you’re good to go. 😉
