HTC released an Android 4.0 update for the Desire S. Unlike seamless over-the-air updates, this is a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) affair, requiring that you download a 404MB file and then manually flash it to your device. In case you wonder, we’ve no information which version of HTC Sense UI it brings, but we would be surprised if that part isn’t included in the new software, as well.

As with all DIY updates, you’re likely to lose all your data, so make sure to backup everything before proceeding. Moreover, it is essential that your Desire S has enough juice to complete the process. If that’s on place, you’re good to do – visit this page and follow the instructions provided there.

Remember that some things could go wrong, so you’re better be extra careful. Don’t blame us if you end up with a bricked phone…
