Apple is kicking off the iPad Mini event in San Jose, and CEO Tim Cook took the stage and unveiled some statistics about Apple’s last few weeks.

  • The iPhone sold 5 million units opening weekend, more than any opening weekend phones sold ever
  • Over 3 million iPods (iPod Touch and iPod Nano) sold since launch
  • 200 million devices have been upgraded to iOS 6, representing over 50% of all iOS devices sold to date (including incompatible ones)
  • 125 million documents have been uploaded to the iCloud
  • 300 billion iMessages have been sent since the service launched, with a send rate of 28,000 per second
  • 160 million Game Center accounts
  • 70 million photos shared in the Shared Photo Stream feature added to iOS 6
  • 700,000 iOS apps including 275,000 optimized for iPad (they’ve shared this stat before)
  • 35 billion apps have been downloaded to date
  • $6.5 billion paid out to developers
  • 1.5 million books available on the iBookstore, with 400 million books downloaded to date
  • Mac sales have been outperforming the PC industry for 6 consecutive years
  • Mac is the #1 desktop and #1 laptop in the U.S.
  • 100 million iPads sold to date. Apple crossed the threshold just a week ago
  • More iPads sold in June quarter than any PC maker sold in its entire lineup
  • iPads account for 91% of all tablet web traffic
There will certainly be more stats added as the event continues, and we’ll keep this post up to date for you.
