Opera Software unveiled a new service that will make it easy for operators to offer on-demand web browsing. Dubbed Opera Web Pass, it makes is possible for carriers to launch package time- or site-specific data offerings to their users. As a result, customers with limited or no mobile data will be able to pay for web access for the next few hours or pay just to access certain website(s).
And there’s already first operator on board – Malaysia’s DiGi Telecommunications, which is targeting users that don’t want to be constantly online (or it’s too expensive for them) and would rather pay for Internet/web access only when they actually need it. This flexible and cost-efficient way is a win-win for both operators and users, and we’re certain it will be rolled out by many other operators in the emerging markets all around the world.
