FreedomPop is trying to make waves in the wireless arena by offering low-cost 4G wireless broadband access. To attract additional customers, the company has moved beyond its own storefront and is now selling its wares on Amazon’s website. As of November 26, FreedomPop is selling hardware like its Freedom Spot Photon 4G Mobile Hotspot directly through Amazon. Not only will FreedomPop enjoy the benefits of being included in the product catalog of the world’s largest online retailer, the company’s products will also be eligible for Amazon’s fast and inexpensive Prime shipping.
FreedomPop offers wireless broadband service on Clear’s 4G WiMAX network and will expand to Sprint’s 4G LTE network in 2013. The company is known for its free 500MB data plan and its wireless sleeves that’ll work with the iPhone or the iPod touch. With three of the four major carriers rocking LTE networks and competition in the 4G marketplace heating up, it’ll be interesting to see if the inexpensive options available with FreedomPop will attract customers. This low-cost strategy may be put to the test when Softbank closes on its deal to acquire a majority stake in Sprint. Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son is known for turning around the Japanese wireless carrier by undercutting the competition with rock bottom prices.
