Still patiently awaiting for Carbon, the sexy Twitter app that’s been demoed enough times on video but has never seen an official release on Google Play? Well, you’re going to have to wait longer for that one, but another app named Carbon was announced today from ClockWorkMod. Carbon is a simple backup and restore application that allows the user to upload said apps to the cloud, PC, or the device’s on-board storage.
Sure, there might be enough applications around that essentially allow for the same functionality, but Carbon also looks nice doing it. The UI is simple and clean and it’s terribly easy to setup. All you need to do is sign in to your Google account to have Carbon upload to Google Drive for backups, and you’re done. Support for DropBox has yet to be implemented but is on its way.
Possibly one of the best features in Carbon is that your backups can sync between devices that have Carbon installed, ensuring that your backups are always a tap away, no matter what you’re using.
At the moment, the application is in beta and you won’t find all features working. You’ll also need to be rooted to perform a back up. That will change going forward, and you can backup and restore applications from the cloud whether you’re rooted or not.
Carbon currently isn’t available in the Google Play Store just yet, but you can hit up Koushik Dutta’s Google+ page and grab the app for yourself!
