If you have poor AT&T service in Georgia, South Carolina, San Diego or Las Vegas you may be in luck because the carrier is making its 3G MicroCell available to more customer. The femtocell uses your wired Internet connection to essentially create a miniature cell tower in your home or business and customers can switch between AT&T’s network and the MicroCell on the fly.

The femtocell can blanket up to a 5,000-square foot area and it has simultaneous support for up to four voice or data users. The hardware costs about $150 but you can get a mail-in rebate if you sign up for a $20 monthly plan that gives unlimited calling within the MicroCell’s range. Go to AT&T’s website to check for availability.
