Palm loses $22 million, sees some positive signs

March 18, 2010 by Marin Perez - 2 Comments

Palm’s took another pounding in its third-quarter earnings because consumers continue to turn away from webOS devices. The company reported a $22 million loss on revenues of about $366 million. The loss is not unexpected because the smartphone maker lowered its revenue expectations last month because of slower-than-expected webOS sales. Unveiled in January 2009, webOS…

Check out the Windows Phone 7 Series ad

March 18, 2010 by Marin Perez - 4 Comments

The first ad for Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 Series has hit the tubes of the Internet and it’s actually pretty good. It shows how the new operating system can handle the day-to-day wants and needs of people like me, you know, “life maximizers.” All jabs aside, it’s a nice introduction to the software giant’s vision…

March 17, 2010 by Simon Sage - Leave a Comment

The last we heard about a GSM webOS products in the U.S. was FCC documents, and scattered rumours of a May 10 launch, but analyst Peter Misek from Canaccord Adams thinks the Pre and Pixi (Plus?) will not land until the summer. The delay comes from AT&T’s end, apparently, who has a laundry list of…

March 16, 2010 by Simon Sage - Leave a Comment

For those Palm Pre owners who want webOS blazing fast, even at the risk of bricking your phone, a homebrew patch has been developed which tricks the Palm Pre’s processor to run at 800 Mhz. As you can see from this video, it’s pretty danged snappy – it handles 16 cards open at once without…

Palm rolls out ad campaign that doesn’t suck

March 16, 2010 by Marin Perez - 2 Comments

Palm has rolled out a new ad campaign for webOS and while it’s a really good depiction of how the device operates, it may be too little, too late. The ad shows an attractive young lady walking down the street while some Mos Def music blasts. She’s seeing webOS screens in stride and it’s a…

March 16, 2010 by Will Park - 3 Comments

Patents are big business. Just ask Microunity. The obscure “tech” “company” (read: patent troll) has up and filed a far-reaching patent infringement lawsuit against all the biggest players in the mobile space. Microunity’s lawsuit, filed today in a Texas court, reads like a who’s who of influential actors on the US mobile stage – the…

Over the weekend, OtterBox announced Impact and Commuter series cases for the Palm Pixi. I was wondering when OtterBox was going to hit us with this news! The new cases run $19.95 and $34.95 respectively, and provide the quality drop, kick, and drop-kick protection that you’re used to with OtterBox. The Impact series case for…

This week Verizon is all about gaming on the Palm Pre Plus

March 15, 2010 by Dusan Belic - Leave a Comment

This week Verizon Wireless is showcasing webOS games. As far as I’ve understood from their press release, some of the titles mentioned won’t work on the Pixi Plus, hence they only talk about the Pre Plus and its gaming capabilities. In total, the Big Red is suggesting 18 titles: Asphalt 5, Brain Challenge, Glyder 2,…

March 12, 2010 by Marin Perez - Leave a Comment

We were at the Game Developer’s Conference this week in San Francisco and we got some good hands-on time with the latest games for webOS. The platform was originally launched with a relatively simple software development kit: it was based around Internet standards like HTML and CSS in order to target the millions of web…
