Cut the Rope

Had it enough with Angry Birds? Want something different yet equally addictive and entertaining? Try Cut the Rope and kiss your free time goodbye… again.

The game features a small monster called Om Nom, whose only purpose in life seems to be – eating candies. Your job is to make sure he fulfills that purpose, by cutting ropes and releasing candy into his mouth. It may sound dull and stupid, but it really isn’t — quite the contrary, once you start playing you won’t be able to stop. Let’s go into the details, shall we?

The Good
  • Great idea - cut the rope to feed a little monster. It sounds strange but it's actually awesome.
  • There are quite a few levels included. Each box, and there are 7 of them, comes with 25 levels.
  • Cut the Rope features simple yet "lovable" graphics, perfectly suited for a casual game.
The Bad
  • You'll be forgetting about your friends until you grab that last star. It's that addictive!
  • Getting all those stars can easily take most if not all of your free time.
  • Non-intrusive ads in the Android version make iPhone users suckers for buying the game.

Features & Functionality

There are simple levels and there are some really complex ones. Getting just a candy isn't that hard, what could be the problem is to collect all of the stars along the way. Don't say you haven't tried to hit the three-star rating in Angry Birds - you'll want to do that here, too.

Features:

  • 7 boxes each containing 25 levels, with more coming soon. The boxes included are Cardboard Box, Fabric Box, Fail Box, Magic Box, Valentine Box, Gift Box and Cosmic Box, each having something special about it.
  • Different kinds of obstacles - jagged spikes and candy-eating spiders.
  • Regular and disappearing stars -- i.e. you need to be quick.
  • A number of tools that will help you along the way, including air pumps, hidden ropes, special pulleys, balloons and more.
  • Crystal Leaderboards and Achievements - allowing players to see how they compare to "rope cutters" around the world. iPhone version also supports Game Center.

As you can see, there's a lot to discover while playing Cut the Rope. All of the features listed above will make you play for hours and hours. Sometimes, you'll need to catapult candy to the other side of the screen to quickly get the disappearing star, while in some other cases you'll be slowly balancing the rope to miss spikes. And if you want to go for the three-star rating, you'll spend a ton of time playing.

Conclusion

Cut the Rope is an impressive game and I'm not the only one claiming that. As a matter of fact, it is one of the top games in Apple's AppStore and the first iOS game to win the prestigious BAFTA award. Once you try it - you'll love it... or hate it for all the time wasted...

Recommend

I do recommend downloading Cut the Rope. However, you must be aware this is an addictive little game. If you're cool with that - act now and grab it from either Apple AppStore or GetJar (coming soon to Android Market), depending which phone you have. Additionally, you can also get Cut the Rope HD for iPad.

Similarly to Angry Birds, iPhone version costs a buck whereas the Android app is free to download, though comes with ads.
