Presentation
I made the switch to the Impact Series case shortly after trying out the more heavy duty Defender Series. Winter was just starting to wind up in Canada, and the lack of a screen and keyboard cover made me significantly more nervous when pulling out the Bold at the bus stop, but it didn’t take long to appreciate the slimness that the skin offered. The design itself had a great look to it, and even brought more style to my BlackBerry than the original mock-leather backing did. However, a few things did stem my full appreciation of the Impact series: for one, the top section’s holes for phone speaker and LED light were misaligned, resting just a little too high; secondly, the mold lines along all sides really, really distracted me. (Call it a stickler habit from my Warhammer 40k days.)

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement. With plenty of content under his belt, Simon will be branching off a bit to see what other smartphone manufacturers are working on while still using BlackBerry as a barometer.
