iphone-itunes-tv-movie-screenshot-4With Apple expected to unveil their latest iPhone offering(s) at WWDC 2009, the iPhone rumors are coming hard and fast. The latest iPhone rumor to rise to the surface has the iPhone getting jiggy with direct TV show and movie downloads through WiFi. In-app advertisements for “iTunes Movies,” “iTunes Movie Rentals” and “iTunes TV” apparently led one curious web-surfer to stumble upon an iPhone iTunes section for video downloads.

Giving more credence to the rumor is the fact that the iPhone iTunes video section is seemingly under construction. Missing graphics and non-functional elements seem to indicate that Apple is upgrading their current iTunes iphone-itunes-tv-movie-screenshot-2system on-the-fly. As you can see from the alleged screenshots, the iPhone iTunes video store allows you to browse by genre or featured movies and TV shows.

It’s unclear if Apple will restrict movie and TV downloads to WiFi connections, but if the company’s track record in restricting bandwidth-intensive downloads from using 3G connections is any indication, future iPhones will be downloading long-form media only through a WiFi network. We’re also going to have to wait and see if this new video-download section of iTunes will be rolled out prior to iPhone OS 3.0 or if it will be one of the upcoming iPhone operating system’s new features.
