AT&T's Samsung Infuse 4G gets a small firmware update and it's not Gingerbread

AT&T has released a small firmware update for the Samsung Infuse 4G and it’s not Gingerbread. Rather, the 14.5MB heavy download is a maintenance update that fixes some of the known bugs, improves stability and performance, and so on. I bet it hurts that you have to wait for the Korean company and AT&T to finish with their testing and finally release the Gingerbread update — that’s presuming you own the Samsung Infuse 4G.

The good (and old) news is that AT&T recently promised that all of its new Android phones, Infuse 4G included, will get the Gingerbread treatment at some point. We can only hope that won’t happen at a time when other devices start getting the Ice Cream Sandwich updates, cause that would be kinda ironical.

Anyway, we advise you to keep your software up to date, so if you’re battery if fully charged – feel free to proceed.., not that you needed anyone’s permission, of course… ;)

    One noticeable improvement is that it makes Skype video calling work. Previously, only voice calling was an option. Now video is enabled, including switching between the front and back camera.

    I have a Samsung Infuse 4g and I tried to install the update, however when it reboots and starts to install, at 75% it says it failed the update and then reboots without installing. My phone is rooted, but I did not install any custom roms, only uninstalled a few of the bogus apps which came with the phone. I did some reading, and saw some comments that said if the preinstalled apps were deleted, this would cause the update to not work. Is this true?

      mine is doing the same thing. and i also did the same thing as you where i uninstalled some of the stock unnecessary apps

      I have the same problem- rooted, uninstalled some of the bloatware, no custom rome and mine fails at 75% and reboots. Crazy thing is that after you click OK on the message it starts pulling the update down again.

    I have installed the update and cannot root my infuse with SuperOneClick 1.9.5.  Fail at the mount path…..  My infuse was not rooted before the SW update.  Anyone has success rooting the infuse after the 9/15 SW update ?

    I have a rooted Infuse 4G, and initially had the update fail at 75% multiple times.  the problem I had was that I had “frozen” a number of the AT&T included bloat apps (AT&T stuff, social updates, buddies now, etc.) using Bloat Freezer.  I “thawed” all those applications and reran the update and it worked!  If you have deleted those apps, you could be stuck.  Hope this helps!
