Two of the leading Chinese handset makers, ZTE and Huawei, have both increased their smartphone shipments last year. ZTE on its end has exceeded its own target by more than doubling shipments of smartphones in 2012, helping it offset decreasing sales of feature phones. At the same time, the company has posted positive free cash flow and operating cash flow for the first time in three years. ZTE generated 15% of its smartphone revenue in 2012 from sales of mid to high-end devices in 2012, and the goal is to … Read more

Huawei had one major device announcement during this year’s Mobile World Congress – for the Ascend P2, though many other devices were also on display in Barcelona. Just like ZTE, Huawei has also advanced through the years and we even tend to think of it as a better of the two major Chinese handset makers. At least we find Huawei-made products looking much better than those made by ZTE. And it was interesting to watch the evolution of Huawei’s MWC booth… Just few years ago, they’ve been showcasing entry- and … Read more
With industry leaders like Samsung and HTC keeping a low profile at Mobile World Congress this year, smaller manufacturers like Huawei have a chance to shine. Huawei seized this opportunity and kicked off MWC with its newest flagship phone, the Ascend P2. The P2 is a strong mid-range offering with a 4.7-inch display, a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The 720P display offers an almost edge-to-edge design (Infinity Edge Display) and is crafted of Gorilla Glass 2. It’s touted as the world’s fastest smartphone because it rocks a LTE Cat4 … Read more
Huawei just came out with two announcements at MWC, which include 2012′s full sales revenue numbers, as well as a new global branding campaign effort. Poised to kick some series ass in 2013, Huawei is looking to push its brand harder than ever. Huawei’s global sales revenue for 2012 reached to $7.5 billion (up 10% from the previous year), and more than 127 million device shipments. Q4 2012 shipments reached 10.8 billion, which is a whopping 89.5% year over year for the company, which is pretty darn impressive. The company … Read more
Huawei is the first to kick off Mobile World Congress with the announcement of the Ascend P2. The P2 will take the place of the Ascend P1, which was announced as “the world’s thinnest smartphone” last year at CES 2012. The P2 is a strong mid-range handset with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. It doesn’t keep its title as “the world’s thinnest smartphone,” but it does check in with a still slim 8mm profile. On the back of the device is a 13-megapixel camera and on the … Read more
Japanese carrier Emobile unveiled its first LTE smartphone, and it’s the Huawei GL07S, which we can’t help but compare to the upcoming Ascend P2. The phone looks like a black version of Huawei’s upcoming “world’s thinnest smartphone” though it’s 8.6mm thick (instead of 6.5mm). Then again, the Chinese company may repeat the last year’s practice (as it did with the Ascend P1) and release not one but two different versions of the Ascend P2, one of which will be super-thin while the other one will sport a bigger battery. So … Read more
O2 will be the first British mobile operator that will sell the Huawei Ascend W1, which is the Chinese company’s first (and still only) Windows Phone 8 device. The smartphone already got a page at the carrier’s website from where we learn it will be available in late March in “Electric Blue” and “Electric Pink.” Price was not mentioned, but specs have been recapped and we bring them here: the Ascend W1 sports a 4-inch WVGA IPS display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, 5-megapixel rear camera, VGA front-facing … Read more
