Samsung starts production of 20-nm 4Gb LPDDR3 DRAM for mobile devices
Samsung has started production of the new high-speed low power DDR3 (LPDDR3) RAM for mobile devices. The new chips are based on 20-nm process while apparently capable of achieving performance levels comparable to RAM found on computers. The 4Gb RAM can transmit data up to 2,133 megabits per second (Mbps) per pin, which is much more than existing LPDDR2 (800Mbps). Companies who pay celebrities to tweet about their device need to do some screening before turning these folks loose on the internet. In yet another well-intentioned, but embarrassing tweet, Spanish tennis player David Ferrer crooned about his Galaxy S4 using an iPhone. Users of Sprint’s Samsung Galaxy S4 have been prompted to update their beloved super-phone by downloading the 24MB-heavy file. Build L720VPUAMDL is pushing out to SGS4 owners as we speak, but unfortunately we’re not sure what kind of feature tweaks it brings to the mix.
