Dish Network declined to submit a new bid for Sprint Nextel, leaving the carrier to Japan’s SoftBank. The satellite TV provider quoted “extreme deal protections” included in Sprint’s revised acquisition agreement with SoftBank for its decision not to pursue the deal. Sprint announced today that it is rolling out LTE to 22 new cities in the US, including a few popular vacation destinations such as Miami, Florida and Napa, California. MetroPCS Opens Up Network to Unlocked GSM Devices
Today, MetroPCS announced that its customers can now use unlocked GSM devices on their network, which has been solely CDMA up until this point. Because of the recent merger of T-Mobile with MetroPCS, MetroPCS will be transitioning from its CDMA network to T-Mobile’s GSM network. FCC Docs Show Sprint LTE Compatable HTC Windows Phone 8 Device

FreedomPop adds voice to its free smartphone data plan
FreedomPop announced today that it will soon add voice minutes and unlimited text messages to its free smartphone data plans. The new plan will be available to Android owners and will include 200 VoIP-based calling minutes. Calls and texts will not count against the user’s 500MB allotment of data.
