Sony Ericsson shipped 18% more phones in 2007 than 2006, breaks 100 million units

logo_sonyericsson.pngSony Ericsson, the retarded red headed step child who I want to love but can’t, had an amazing year shipping over 103 million devices. Compare that to a hair under 75 million last year and you’re talking 18% growth. Market share is at the brink of entering the double digits, but not quite there yet at 9%. Average selling prices of 2007 compared to 2006 are down over 20 euros, but this is to be expected as the areas where most of Sony’s growth is occurring is in the low end.

My message to Sony Ericsson: Get your shit together, you’re better than this and you know it. Your devices are slick, your dumb phone OS is gorgeous, yet UIQ is disgusting and consumers don’t feel like you’re hungry for that #1 spot that Nokia keeps on enjoying. Give us some standard ports (3.5 mm, USB) already and listen to your fans because on the internet I regularly hang out on, it isn’t Nokia vs Apple, it is Nokia vs Sony Ericsson.
