TELUS Launches Automatic Data Consumption Alerts for Customers

TELUS adds free data consumption messaging service

Need help monitoring your data usage? Ever wish there was some sort of alert system provided by your carrier setup to keep you informed? TELUS has come out with a new SMS notification system called TELUS Data Notifications… and yes, it’s free.

How it works is simple. TELUS sends subscribers SMS text messages when they approach and pass data thresholds. This is incredibly useful to avoid those nasty overage charges, or, just for keeping tabs on how much data you actually use. Subscribers will now receive notifications when they reach 75% and 95% of their current limit. For pay-per-use plans, notifications are sent out when you run up $10 and $50. These very handy alerts work in Canada AND while roaming in the US and International areas.

Kudos to TELUS for providing the service. Seems like a real winner, if nothing else than for peace-of-mind for their customers. Knowing that your carrier will notify you whenever data thresholds are approaching is a big WIN in my books.

TELUS launches SMS alert to help customers manage data usage

Data Notifications send customers free SMS updates on data consumption

Toronto, ON – TELUS today announced the launch of TELUS Data Notifications, a SMS text message notification system that informs wireless subscribers when they reach thresholds of data consumption. The notification service is automatic and free for all to help manage their data usage.

“TELUS continues to make industry-leading investments to deliver an enhanced customer experience. We were the first of the leading Canadian carriers to fully remove the System Access Fee and introduce clear and simple pricing as part of our unyielding commitment to our customers,” said David Fuller, Chief Marketing Officer, TELUS Customer Solutions. “Today, we are excited to launch TELUS Data Notifications, a new service to proactively and transparently inform our customers of their data usage. This will help ensure they are receiving the best value and experience from our services.”

Notifications alert wireless customers when they are close to using all of the data included with their monthly rate plan or add-on feature. For those with packages, free SMS notifications will be sent informing them when they have reached both 75 per cent and 95 per cent of their data thresholds. For those using pay-per-use, free SMS notifications will be sent when customers have used $10 and $50. These alerts will work in Canada and while roaming in the United States and internationally.

Available for all TELUS wireless devices on our 3G and our 3G+ networks, these new notifications help customers make the right usage decisions and avoid surprises in their monthly bill.  For more information visit telusmobility.com/data.
