We know what you’re thinking, and you’re probably right. The Motorola Quench XT3/XT5 is some sort of successor to the lackluster Quench, or CLIQ XT for those in the US. And, as a successor, there are bound to be some improvements, right? Well, we actually have no idea. We’re just going on what we have in these FCC documents, but it’s likely that the new device will remain in the mid-ranged smartphone category.
Codenamed Greco, the device may be renamed as the Quench XT3 or XT5, but the difference between the two is beyond us at the moment. The XT3 will rely only on the touchscreen from the looks of it, but buttons are a necessity for Android, so it shouldn’t be surprising if you find the dedicated four at the bottom of the screen. The XT3 sports 850 / 1900 / 2100MHz 3G bands, which may be an indication that it will be heading to AT&T. Alright, another sub-par Motorola Android phone for AT&T! Awesome.
Let’s hope the XT3 will have a slightly beefier spec sheet. That’s not to say that the CLIQ XT was a bad device, but a slightly snappier CPU in the thing could do wonders. Hopefully we’ll see a bigger screen as well – not too much bigger though, since part of the appeal from the original was that it was so pocketable. But, at 3.1-inches, the CLIQ XT’s display is just too small to have a great viewing experience of, well, anything. Opinions aside, let’s hope the XT3 picks up where the CLIQ XT left off, and ships with at least Android 2.1.
Anyone excited for this thing? It’s hard to see the good in devices like this when the same manufacturer is pushing out devices like the Droid X and Droid 2, but there are certainly a good amount of people who don’t need massive screens and fast CPUs. I’m just not one of them.
