If you’ve been lusting after the entry-level Samsung Gem, you’ll be happy to know that you can now pick up the Android-powered handset for about $30 when you sign a new contract with U.S. Cellular.
If you don’t recall when it landed on Alltel, the Samsung Gem is a modest Android phone with a 3.2-inch display. This isn’t the Galaxy S lineup, so don’t expect the Super AMOLED display.
The Samsung Gem on U.S. Cellular will be powered by the Android 2.2 Froyo platform and this will include things like a faster JavaScript rendering engine, overall performance improvements and the ability to save and launch apps from the SD card.
You’re also looking at a 3.2-megapixel camera that can record video, 3G connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi and all the other goodies you’d expect from this. It will be preloaded with the expected Google services like Android Market and Gmail.
There’s not really much more to say about this device, so hit the “via” link if you’re interested.
