Sony-Ericsson announced that the long-awaited update to Gingerbread for the X10 is still coming. After countless request by people asking about a release date and what to expect with this new update, Sony-Ericsson addressed all the questions in its latest blog post.
The release time frame for this major update is now set for some time in August. It gave us that date and said the company is still developing this update for the popular Xperia device and are testing it to make sure everything works well together before it attempts to release the update.
The update carries over some features that were introduced with the company’s new Xperia Arc. The exact features that will be included were announced back in March, but let’s go through some of the main points. The UI with the desktop layout and pinch-to-overview gesture will be similar to that included in the Arc’s software. Gingerbread features like Wi-Fi , USB tethering, App storage on SD-card will also be included. The customizable horizontal app tray and the media experience widgets along with the new integrated equalizer in the music player will also be present in this update.
Not all the new features that were introduced along with the Xperia Arc will be coming with this update. DLNA support was not high in its “to-do” list, so it will not be present in this update. Luckily Android Market has countless DLNA clients that can be downloaded and used as alternatives to this. On the upside, the intense Facebook integration will be brought over and so that’s one more thing to look forward to.
This is the update X10 owners have been waiting for and I’m sure they are excited to see that Sony Ericsson isn’t leaving them out in the cold when it comes to software updates.
