The folks at Showyou have just pushed out the 3.0 version of the social video app and it now includes multiple user interface tweaks and new features.
For those who don’t know, Showyou is an app that scours your Twitter and Facebook feeds to find what videos are being shared. These videos are mainly being pulled in from YouTube but Showyou has also cut deals with the likes of Viacom to directly stream clips like the Colbert Report with the app.
The company launched its iPad app about nine months ago and has been happy with the results so far: the average user has a session time of more than half an hour and most of the usage is found during the weekend and at night. This is different from usual Internet traffic patterns, which peak during the day.
“This shows we’re welcoming the iPad into our weekends and evenings in ways we never did with the PC,” said Mark Hall, CEO of Remixnation, which makes Showyou.
The grid user interface the debuted with the original Showyou app remains and it has been improved to give users more abilities. Hall said the app was specifically designed to be “swipe-focused” in order to best take advantage of the iPad and the 3.0 version makes bringing up new menus as simple as swiping on your tablet.
Other new features include:
- Tap a user icon to go to that user’s grid, to see all the videos they’ve shared
- Zoom in to see grids with videos from your social networks (Twitter, Facebook, etc)
- Browse by category, and to see the latest videos from top channels in those categories
- Pan vertically within a category; swipe laterally between categories
- Slide open our new tray from any grid to get additional options & context
- Search for videos, and toggle between “popular” and “recent” results
- Explore hashtag grids curated with data from Twitter and Showyou users
