A week after releasing its iOS app, Readability is now launching its Android version. In the US, the app will be available in the Amazon Appstore, not in Google Play (formerly Android Market). Outside the US, the app will debut in Google Play and should be available for you to download to your Android device now.
If you’ve never used the service, Readability lets you read a web page without all the fluff. The app strips out advertisements, extra graphics and other surplus content that distracts you from the text of an article. The text and any remaining images important to the document are formatted in a way that’s easy to read. The app also lets you login to your Readability account to archive articles for later reading on that device or any other device that supports the service. I often mark articles in a third-party app like Tweetbot, which has built-in support for Readability. When I have the time, I will then read the article using the Readability app on my tablet.
Both the Android app and the Readability service are available for free.
