Oppo hasn’t locked down the sensor for its next flagship camera phone yet, and honestly, that tells you something. When a company is still running tests between two unreleased chips this far out from launch, it usually means they’re being picky. Let’s hope that’s what’s happening here.
According to NotebookCheck, Weibo tipster “Digital Chat Station” has shared early details on the camera configuration being tested for the Oppo Find X10 Ultra. The focus is on the 10x periscope telephoto module, where Oppo is reportedly evaluating two separate sensor options. Both candidates hit 50MP resolution and share a 1/1.95″ optical format. One is Samsung’s ISOCELL GNB, which has been floating around in leaks before. The other is OmniVision’s OV51A. Neither sensor has been officially released yet, which makes this whole situation a bit of an educated guess wrapped inside another educated guess.
Still, the 1/1.95″ size is worth paying attention to. It’s larger than the telephoto sensor in the current Find X9 Ultra, which means Oppo is pushing for better light capture at that 10x focal length. Telephoto cameras are notoriously hard to get right because the physics of squeezing a long focal length into a slim phone body work against you. A bigger sensor helps, but it only matters if the rest of the optics can keep up.
On that front, Digital Chat Station says the 10x module is keeping its quintuple-reflection-prism design, a pure telephoto build rather than a hybrid telephoto-macro setup. That’s a meaningful choice. Hybrid designs can sound impressive on paper but sometimes sacrifice telephoto sharpness to serve two purposes at once. Oppo apparently wants this lens doing one thing and doing it well.
The 3x short telephoto sensor stays at 200MP, unchanged from the current generation. So the main evolution here, at least based on these leaks, is at the 10x end of the camera stack.
It’s worth putting this in context. The flagship camera phone market right now is intensely competitive. Vivo, Xiaomi, and Huawei are all pushing hard on computational photography and sensor size. Oppo’s Find Ultra series has built a real reputation here, and the Find X9 Ultra was genuinely impressive. But staying competitive in 2027, when this phone is expected to launch, means improving the areas that actually matter to photographers. Telephoto performance is one of the biggest differentiators at the top of the market right now.
As always with leaks from pre-production test units, none of this is confirmed. Oppo could swap sensors, change the lens design, or rework the whole camera stack before the Find X10 Ultra ships. These things happen. But the fact that two serious sensor options are reportedly in play suggests the camera program is active and moving forward.
