Yep, I think we all saw this coming. Google releases a concept video of a way to overlay our everyday vision with Internet-connected services and apps that could potentially change the way we all live our lives. What to do, what to do… ah yes of course, let’s make some parodies.
The first one isn’t exactly safe for work, unless your boss encourages the use of the word “arsehole” around the office. Created by a man named Tom Scott, it points out some of the ways using Google Glasses could potentially go wrong, including getting constant alerts from people you are less-than-ethusiastic to hear from.
The next video parody claims to fill in the major oversight from Google’s original Project Glass video: ads. As insanely futuristic as Google Glasses may be, it’s hard to imagine the company infamously known for injecting ads into almost all of its services not trying to do the same for this. That’ll be a sad, ad-mented reality indeed.
As you can see, both parodies have their own underlying criticisms not just for the technology itself, but also for the company setting out to make it. Google has already been a subject of privacy concerns numerous times for collecting user data. Fast forward to a Google Glasses world and try to conceive how creepy Google can get when it knows where you are and what you’re doing at all times.
Finally, you should probably watch Google’s original Project Glass video below if you haven’t already. It paints a much more optimistic picture of the future than the above parodies, that’s for sure.
