Whether you love it or hate it, Thanksgiving is only almost two weeks away, and we thought it nice to offer up some of the best Android apps to make sure you get out of it alive. From cooking turkey to blocking it all out, we’ll outline the apps to help you get in, and get out alive without pulling out your hair.
In no particular order:
1. Thanksgiving Planner
If you’ll be hosting Thanksgiving at your house this year, Thanksgiving Planner may be right up your alley. The application is a simple to do list- esque application that will make sure you don’t miss a step while planning the perfect dinner for family and friends. The application comes pre-populated with Thanksgiving tasks to take on so you’ll save time by not having to type you’re own list own. Thanksgiving planner will make you don’t forget anything, and is customizable, so you don’t have to sift through tasks/items you’ve already taken care of. But say you have no idea how to cook a turkey, you may want to check out the app below.
Available in the Android Market. Cost: $0.99.
2. My Turkey Recipes
My Turkey Recipes is just what it sounds like, and may save you some trouble when coming up with a way to cook your turkey in the best way. The app holds many different recipes that are verified for accuracy and originality. The app offers up step by step instructions on how to cook your turkey, leaving out any guess work if this is your first time. So when you get compliments on your great turkey you’ve prepared, you can claim all the praise.
Available in the Android Market. Cost: $1.99.
3. Timer by Intuitit
While many people likely won’t want to pay for a simple timer application, Timer from Intuit may change your mind. If you’re dead set on not purchasing an app to time your turkey, then we suggest the free version, if you don’t mind seeing ads. Timer by Intuit looks exactly like a kitchen timer you’d find near a stove with a twisting knob. The app allows you to choose whether you’d like to time in hours, minutes, and seconds, of course, but all is done by a simple tap in the middle of the rotating wheel. You can save your timers and add them as shortcuts to quickly access them without having to manually open the application.
Available in the Android Market. Cost: Free, no-ad version: $1.59.
4. Waze
Waze is a GPS navigation application with a social twist. The application allows you and other drivers interact with each other by notifying of the traffic in a certain area, giving you real-time traffic updates. Waze also integrates Foursquare, Facebook, and Twitter, so you can share your adventure while you’re on the go without having to switch to another application. So if you’re prepping for a long drive to a relative’s house for Turkey day, Waze can keep you informed on the latest traffic jams, and may save you some time cramped in the car. Best of all, Waze is free, so check it out anyway if you’re a driver.
Available in the Android Market. Cost: Free.
5. Slacker Radio
While you’re in the car, on your way to thanksgiving dinner, why not some tunes? Slacker Radio is one of the best streaming music apps available for the Android OS. While a subscription is required to receive all of the app’s benefits, you’ll have access to a vast library of songs, of which you can play as many as you’d like. With the upgraded version, you’ll be able to skip as many songs as you’d like, get the lyrics for the song you’re listening to, and even allow the app to cache the music you’re listening to so you can hear music if you don’t have a data connection. The upgrade will run you and extra $3.99 a month, and it’s a bargain if you listen to music a lot.
Available in the Android Market. Cost: Free, Slacker Radio Plus: $3.99 monthly subscription.
There you have it, folks. These apps may be exactly what you need to get through your Thanksgiving. So whether you’ll be cooking the dinner or eating it, these apps may make for a smooth Turkey day, allowing you to be a part of it, or ignore it all together.
