It put out its first tweet in nearly 2 years, giving rise to speculation about new Droid devices. The tweet indicates something new coming down the pipeline, but doesn’t say what. Today, MetroPCS announced that its customers can now use unlocked GSM devices on their network, which has been solely CDMA up until this point. Because of the recent merger of T-Mobile with MetroPCS, MetroPCS will be transitioning from its CDMA network to T-Mobile’s GSM network. MetroPCS customers in a handful of cities such as Boston, Dallas, Hartford and Las Vegas can now use their unlocked GSM devices on the MetroPCS network, including GSM devices from the AT&T and T-Mobile. Looks like Verizon Wireless is preparing to add another rugged Casio smartphone to its portfolio. The upcoming Casio Commando 4G LTE has been leaked by EVLeaks, which unfortunately doesn’t say anything about the release date. Moreover, we’ve no idea what kind of hardware this phone hides under the hood and can only hope the Japanese company managed to cram a quad-core processor inside. Verizon Wireless has recently expanded its offering of low-cost smartphones for prepay customers with the addition of LG’s Optimus Zone and Optimus Exceed. The first of the two is a slightly different version of last year’s LG Optimus L3. It comes with a rather small 3.2-inch QVGA touchscreen, 3.2-megapixel rear camera, 800MHz single-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of expandable storage, while Android 2.3 Gingerbread is running the show. Verizon is next in line to get the BlackBerry Q10 on June 6. This comes after T-Mobile announced it would have the QWERTY device available a day before Big Red’s release date. Samsung’s Galaxy S4 smartphone became the fastest selling Android phone in history a couple of weeks ago. Samsung announced its flagship phone had surpassed 10 million units sold in under a month. While it can’t move at that speed forever, RBC Capital Markets analyst Mark Sue predicts sales will hit 80 million units this year. HTC may be adding some color to its popular HTC One handset, according to a report from Pocket-Lint. Pictures of a red HTC One have been floating in the cloud for some time now, and it looks as though a blue colored HTC One will be available when the red version is launched, according to sources familiar with the matter. It looks as though the Samsung Galaxy S4 won’t be the only device to gain support for Verizon’s upcoming AWS LTE network upgrade. According to a report from Laptop Mag, Verizon has confirmed that seven devices will be ready to take advantage of the new AWS upgrade when it goes live.
