Telefonica Confirms Firefox OS Device Release In Q3 2013

Firefox OS device launch plans have been confirmed today by Telefonica, which will be bringing Alcatel and ZTE devices to Spain, Colombia and Venezuela in Q3 2013. Firefox OS handsets manufactured by LG, Huawei and Sony will be launched in Q4 2013. Firefox OS-based Geeksphone Keon clears the FCC

Geeksphone Keon has cleared the FCC, allowing government-employed engineers to play with one of the first Firefox OS-based devices before the rest of the world. Firefox OS To Launch In June in Four Emerging Markets

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve had any news about the upcoming Firefox OS, and today we have new details about the release of the new mobile operating system. Mozilla unveils JavaScript API for web and mobile payments

Mozilla unveiled a new JavaScript API that would enable easy payments on the (mobile) web. The navigator.mozPay() will debut on the Firefox OS with support for multiple payment providers and carrier billing. Not too much buzz has been surrounding Mozilla’s Firefox OS lately, probably because the company is hard at work developing it behind the scenes. Mozilla To Offer Firefox OS App Development Workshops

Mozilla’s upcoming Firefox OS is slated to be released on a few mid to low range smartphones later this year, and Mozilla is hoping to speed up app development for its new OS by announcing a series of workshops focused on developing apps for the nascent OS. Workshops will be taking place in Madrid, Spain on April 20th, Bogota, Columbia on May 18th and Warsaw, Poland on June 1st. Firefox OS may be up for a good start with 17 operators wowing to support the nascent platform. Among those committing to carry these smartphones are Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile), Etisalat, Smart, Sprint, Telefonica, America Movil, KDDI, Telecom Italia, Telenor, China Unicom, 3 Group, KT, MegaFon, Qtel, SingTel, TMN and VimpelCom, while Telstra has only “welcomed” the initiative. Just a few days ago at MWC,  Sony announced that it to would be throwing its hat in the ring of Firefox OS device makers. Alcatel and ZTE won’t be the only companies making a Firefox-based phone for so long.
