When the GSM Samsung Galaxy Nexus was released last month, many were a bit bummed to see that Flash wasn’t yet supported for Ice Cream Sandwich. Adobe quickly responded to say that it was working on getting Android 4.0 support out the door as soon as possible and today is that day.
It’s definitely nice to see that new Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners didn’t have to wait that long before they could cruise the interwebs with Flash in tow. With Adobe abandoning Flash in favor of HTML5, this may well be one of the last few updates we see for Android. Either way, support for Ice Cream Sandwich was imperative and it’s cool to see that Adobe wastes no time getting it out.
Adobe also outlined some issues in the current build that users should be aware of:
- Seeking while video is paused will not update the frame on ICS device
- StageVideo using On2 and Sorenson does not work on ICS devices
- PHDS content plays with audio pops
- OS does not prioritize incoming call – audio remains playing before and after call is received
- Enter key does not work on the multi-line text input field
So, while Flash on Ice Cream Sandwich is officially available, it’s not perfect. Then again, Flash was never perfect, so c’est la vie. Even though its primary focus is going to shift going forward, we can still expect to see a couple of bug-fixing updates along the way for better Ice Cream Sandwich support.
If you’re a new owner of a Galaxy Nexus, be sure to get your Flash on by hitting up the Android Market link here, and if you’re still on the fence on your potential Galaxy Nexus purchase for Verizon, check out this page here to see where you can get it below that ominous $300 price point.
