Contact UsEarlier this week LG said that they don’t want to support team Windows Phone anymore. Who can blame them? The OS has little to no market share, Microsoft is prioritizing Nokia, and Android is showing no signs of slowing down. Before LG made the decision to stop supporting Microsoft’s mobile OS however, there was one device that we’ve been covering for at least half a year called the E740. Later we’d find out it was going to be called the Fantasy. On paper it’s your typical Windows Phone that you’ve … Read more
Amid some unfortunate times for Microsoft’s Windows Phone, LG told the Korea Herald this morning that it has no plans in the foreseeable future to launch a new Windows Phone handset. Instead, the company is putting all of its effort behind Android. What’s the reason? Well, LG made it short, sweet, and to the point. “The total unit of Windows Phone sold in the global market is not a meaningful figure,” a representative stated. LG more than many other manufacturers decided a few years ago to focus on Windows Phone more … Read more
Let the cloud storage wars begin … LG is joining the party of phone makers offering its own cloud storage services. It’s funny because LG tried this thing months ago with its 50GB promotion it ran alongside Box. Now the Korean handset maker will go it alone with its new product called LG Cloud, and it will be available in beta starting tomorrow both in Korea and the United States. If you own an LG device you’re in luck, because for the first six months all smartphones will get a … Read more
LG has finally announced its Optimus LTE in Europe. The first market to get it is Germany, where currently three major operators — O2, Vodafone and T-Mobile — are offering LTE services. The version of the device, marked as P936 and called LG Optimus True HD LTE, is pretty much the same as the one we’ve seen in the U.S. (AT&T’s LG Nitro HD) and Canada, boasting that gorgeous 4.5-inch 720p IPS HD screen, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing one, Wi-Fi and so on. … Read more
LG’s handset division lost money for six consecutive quarters until Q4 2011 when it made roughly $8.8 million. Now that the company’s Q1 2012 financial results are out, we’re pleased to say that they’ve made money once again, about $30.7 million. Those numbers are incredibly tiny, but they’re better than nothing. How about revenues though, what are those figures like? Year on year, we’re looking at a drop of 14%. Quarter on quarter, that drop is a softer 9%, which is expected since the fourth quarter is considered a holiday … Read more
Two months ago, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, LG announced a 5 inch smartphone called the Vu. It’s a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note, except for a few crucial things. First, the Vu’s screen has an aspect ratio of 4:3, whereas the Galaxy Note does 16:10. What does this mean in practice? The Vu is more than 7 mm wider than the Note, making it that much harder to hold. Second, the Vu has a stylus, but it’s a capacitive stylus, not the Wacom enabled pressure sensitive … Read more
Not everyone craves for a smartphone. Or at least not everyone wants to pay a premium for all the benefits smartphones bring. Rather some folks are equally satisfied with a QWERTY keyboard equipped feature phone that will allow them to keep up with their buddies without committing to expensive monthly plans. For those folks, AT&T launched new messaging phone, LG Xpression C395, which is available for 50 bucks ($49.99) with a new two-year contract and after a $50 mail-in rebate; or for $219.99 sans any contracts signed. Specs wise, aside … Read more
Once upon a time, the T-Mobile G2X had promise that no other Android phone had. The US variant of the world’s first dual-core phone was met with a lot of praise, which turned into a mess. The stupid powerful handset suffered from handfuls of bugs, which resulted in it being pulled from shelves, only to return with minimal improvements. Well, it looks like the handset may finally be receiving the update it needed out of the gate – literally over a year since its release. One of the most reported bugs for … Read more
Today LG announced that the Optimus 3D Max will launch in Europe. Bad news is, the glasses-less 3D handset will not be headed to folks over in the UK. We’ve known about the Optimus 3D Max for some time now, as we went hands on with the device at this year’s Mobile World Congress but this would be the first time we got some firm roll-out locations. The Optimus 3D Max will rock a 4.3-inch WVGA glasses-free 3D display, plus Gorilla Glass 2. Other specs include a dual-core 1.2Ghz OMAP4430 processor, … Read more
LG announced “the world’s first quad core smartphone” at Mobile World Congress in February of this year. Dubbed the Optimus 4X HD, it still hasn’t hit the market, meanwhile the HTC One X has, and it has the same quad core NVIDIA Tegra 3 inside. Anyway, just like the HTC One X has a dual core variant that relies on Qualcomm’s S4 Snapdragon, LG is said to have an Optimus 4X variant called the D1L that also uses the S4 Snapdragon. We don’t know when this mythical handset will hit … Read more
Canada’s Koodo Mobile added a new Android smartphone to its offering – LG Optimus Black, which unlike its name says can be yours in black OR white. Available for $250, it offers quite a bang for the buck, including a 4-inch WVGA screen (Nova display), 1GHz processor, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, 2-megapixel front-facing one, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth and a memory card slot. It’s not a new phone per se, though it will offer quite a compelling experience to the users. Moreover, it’s one of the … Read more
